Incoming freshman golfer Isaiah Silva’s performance at the Optimist Club golf tournament in Belen earned him a trip to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship in Miami on July 18.

“I’m excited to get to take part,” Silva said.

One of the world’s largest and perhaps best-known junior golf tournaments, the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship features more than 600 golfers from around the world, and all of them had to qualify for the invitation.

The four-day event is the biggest stage that Silva has played on to date.

“I just want to go out there, play my best golf and make the two-day cut. It’s a tournament that will give me a lot of experience for the future,” Silva said.

Despite just being a freshman, Silva appears like he will offer a serious challenge when it comes to winning a medal at next year’s District 3-3A gold tournament.
