Officers with the New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Team are investigating a stabbing on the New Mexico Tech campus.

According to a statement from state police, on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8:11 p.m., campus police officers responded to a call regarding a male stabbing victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to handle the incident.

“This investigation is ongoing as the New Mexico State Police works with the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death,” the report stated.

On Monday, Oct. 31, Tech President Stephen G. Wells released the following statement:

“The university is saddened by the unexpected death of a student in a campus residence hall Saturday. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones, and out of respect for their privacy, we are not releasing the student’s name. The university is offering resources and support to those impacted by this difficult news. Counseling services are available to all NMT students through the Counseling Center and all faculty and staff through the Employee Assistance Program.”
