A NEW SCHOOL SIGN has been installed at the High School. Dr. Perry stated that the purchase of the sign was made possible by Senior Class contributions during the past several years. School events will be posted on the sign to inform both students and parents. The Student Council will maintain the sign and post new events. Our thanks to those who contributed.

Ronald Griego

RONALD N. GRIEGO from Socorro at New Mexico Highlands University, was recently named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the Summer term, according to Dr. Merritt McGahan, academic dean. Griego, a sophomore industrial arts major, was one of 143 students to be named. They were chosen on the basis of achieving a 3.50 or better grade point average for undergraduates. Griego is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Griego of Socorro.

SOCORRO’S JUNIOR MISS is New Mexico’s Junior Miss. Saturday night at Macey Center on the New Mexico Tech campus, Fatima De Los Angeles Gutierrez was chosen over nine other young women from all over the state to represent New Mexico in the national Junior Miss Pageant next spring. She also scored tops in the Judge’s Interview and in Creative and Performance Arts categories. Her accomplishments in high school include being a student council representative for the National Honor Society, competing with the state swimming relay team 1996-97, being a two-year member of the All-District Girls Chorus, a National Hispanic Youth Initiative Scholar, winning first through third medals in the Science Olympiad, being named all-district in track and being listed in Who’s Who Among High School students. Her career goal is to become a pediatrician.

Fred Berger

SOCORRO FIREFIGHTER Fred Berger recently graduated from Paramedic School at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Berger, who has been with the department for approximately five years, is the first member of the Socorro Fire Department to achieve paramedic status. Firefighter Cliff Armijo said Berger paid for his training out of his own pocket to be a paramedic. Armijo said, “The members of Socorro Fire Department Local 2947 would like to congratulate and recognize our union brother for his fine accomplishment and great personal and financial sacrifice.

Christopher Ramos

CHRISTOPHER M. RAMOS graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California earning the title of United States Marne. Christopher was part of the 3rd Training Battalion, India company, Platoon 3214. Christopher is a 2013 Socorro High School graduate. Christopher is the son of Stephanie Saavedra and grandson of Mike and Dolores Czosnek of Socorro. Christopher will travel back to Camp Pendleton in San Diego for Marine Combat Training and then go on to his Military Occupational Specialty Training of Military Police in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
