The Socorro Fiber Arts Guild met last Saturday to discuss upcoming county fair entries to be judged Aug. 31, and the Magdalena quilt show on Oct. 13 and 14.

The group organizes and produces more than 30 community quilts a year which are presented to veterans, hospice patients and others in need of the comfort of a handmade quilt.

Every year, the guild also crafts a quilt for Bosque Del Apache’s Festival of the Cranes as an online fund-raiser. Last year’s quilt raised over $10,000.

On display at the August meeting was the 2023 quilt created by a team. Norma Lorang lead the group, com- prised of Bill Bailey, Deb Card, Charlie Coles, Nancy Dotson, Linda Emary, Ann Hook, and Jerri Leaverton.

The quilting was done by Bobbi Lucero and Edgewater Quilting in Albuquerque, and the inspiration was from a photograph by Virginia Lee.
