April 24

An officer was dispatched at 12:48 p.m. to the 200 block of California for damage to a storage unit. The officer met with the owner, who said a renter had broken into her storage shed. She said she sees the renter come at night and try to stay in the unit. She estimated damages to the door track amounted to $1,500 to replace.

An officer arrested a woman at 12:51 p.m. at a local business for an outstanding warrant. The officer was called back a short time later to the place of the arrest where an employee found drugs at the spot where the woman had been. The officer took the drugs and placed them into evidence at Socorro Police Department. Possession of a controlled substance was added to her charges.

An officer was dispatched at 1 p.m. to the 1200 block of El Camino Real for a breaking and entering. The victim said her vehicle had been rummaged through, and two dollars in change was taken, but nothing else was missing. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.

An officer was called at 4:23 p.m. to the 1200 block of El Camino Real in reference to a woman being followed. The officer met with the reporting person who stated she was driving home when she noticed a vehicle following her. She said the vehicle then pulled around her and attempted to force her to stop her car. She stated the suspect had been constantly harassing her, and she would like to press charges against him.

An officer met with a victim at 9:44 p.m. at John Brooks who said her ex-boyfriend had been exchanging words with her, and when her latest boyfriend arrived, a fight started between the ex and the current. The officer was able to view the video and charged the ex-boyfriend.

April 25

An officer was called at 11:41 a.m. to John Brooks for someone wanting to speak with an officer. The reporting person stated he was picking up his girlfriend when he was approached by the suspect, who attempted to hit him while wearing brass knuckles. The reporting person said he had a knife with him but threw it down and took a swing at the suspect. He said he would like the incident documented.

An officer was called at 12:10 p.m. to Dollar General for a shoplifter. The officer met with the suspect, who admitted to shoplifting. The officer recovered the items and returned them to the store. The reporting person stated they did not want to press charges but wanted the suspect trespassed.

An officer was dispatched at 1:02 p.m. to Sarracino Middle School for a fight. The principal said one student bumped another student with his shoulder in the hallway. The other student reacted by pushing the suspect student away from him. Both students were sent home for the rest of the day.

An officer was called at 2:16 p.m. to Sarracino Middle School regarding narcotics at the school. The officer met with the reporting person, who said a student had brought drugs into the building. The student’s father was called and arrived at the school. The officer attempted to speak with the father, but he refused to talk to law enforcement.

An officer was dispatched at 2:22 p.m. to Sarracino Middle School, where the principal said a student had brought a knife to school last week. The student was taken to the office, and the knife was located in his backpack. The student was suspended. The principal said the student had seen a social worker and was at low risk.

An officer was called at 2:59 p.m. to Caine Street, where a woman was trying to get into a residence. The officer met with the reporting person, who stated the woman was attempting to enter one of his tenant’s residences but left before the officer arrived. He said she told him she was attempting to pick up property from the residence. The reporting person said he did not allow the woman into the home because he was unsure if his tenant wanted her there. The officer contacted the womon, who stated she understood she needed the tenant’s permission.

An officer was on a call at 5:47 p.m. when a woman approached him at Circle K on S. Highway 85. The officer ran her information, and she came back as missing out of California. She stated she was in contact with her family and was waiting for them to pick her up.

An officer was called at 6:40 p.m. to Walmart to speak with a woman. The reporting person stated her daughter was at Walmart where she was approached by someone who asked to use her phone to make a phone call. The officer spoke with the daughter, who stated a man approached her, asking to use her phone. She dialed the number for him and held up the phone for him to talk. The daughter said the man continued getting closer and attempted to maneuver her over to his vehicle. She said he did not physically touch her but just made her uncomfortable.

April 26

An officer was called to New Mexico Tech in reference to a theft. The officer met with the reporting person, who said someone had taken a tree from the side of the road that belonged to the City Of Socorro. The tree was valued at $350.

An officer was patrolling at 11:30 a.m. on NE Frontage Road when he noticed a man known to have an active warrant for his arrest. He was placed under arrest and transported to SCDC where he was booked on his warrant.

An officer was dispatched at 8:58 a.m. to the 200 block of School of Mines Road where a homeowner said she wanted to report a tree being stolen from her yard in the middle of the night.

April 27

An officer made contact with a man at midnight on Fifth Street who claimed he did not know he had driven into a private drive and that he was just passing through. A check with NCIC showed he had two active warrants for his arrest. He was placed in handcuffs to the rear and then booked into the Socorro County Detention Center.

An officer was called at 12:51 a.m. to Super 8 in reference to a burglary. The victim stated when he arrived at his hotel room he noticed the door chain to be locked, something he could not have done from the outside, and he could hear somebody in the room. The victim was able to gain entry into his room and noticed somebody had stolen multiple items. The officer attempted to watch a security camera video but was unable to.

An officer was dispatched at 8:18 a.m. to Walmart, where employees witnessed a woman shoplifting a pair of man’s work boots. After viewing the security camera video, the officer was able to identify the woman and recognized the vehicle she got into. The officer knew where the driver of the vehicle lived and went by the residence to make contact but was unsuccessful at the time of the report. The work boots were valued at $54.98.

An officer was dispatched at 11:30 p.m. to Giles Lane for an unresponsive person. On arrival, the officer was directed to a hallway where a man was on the floor, lying on his back and cold to the touch. The officer checked his vitals and could not find a pulse. EMS arrived and confirmed the victim was deceased. The officer contacted dispatch and notified them to contact OMI. OMI came and took the body into custody and explained everything further to the family—no further information at this time.

April 29

An officer was dispatched at 10:13 p.m. to Circle K on S. Highway 85 for a fight. The officer met with the victim, who said she had been in an altercation with another woman who tased her. The officer met with the suspect who said the victim attacked her, so she took out her taser and tried to use it on her. The suspect said she was unsure if she tased the victim but was trying to protect herself.
