After already setting two Socorro High School track and field records this season, it was going to be hard for Braden Mounyo to top his performances. Still, the Warrior senior is saving the best for last.

Braden Mounyo’s leap of 45.6.5 in the triple jump broke a 13-year-old record.

At the District 3-3A meet in Truth or Consequences, Braden Mounyo not only upped his game but also left a lasting mark. He shattered his own 300 hurdles record with a new clocking of 38.95 and added a third record in the triple jump with a leap of 45-6.5.

“Adam Paz set the record in 2013. He was the best jumper I have coached. He won two state triple jump titles and a long jump,” Warrior head coach Cody Lee said. “To be honest, I didn’t think it would ever be broken. Never count out Mounyo.”

Mounyo’s 14.39 time in the 110 hurdles broke a 53-year-old record held by Daryll Saulsberry.

Mounyo skipped the pole vault and long jump to concentrate on other events, and after running in the relays, nobody fathomed him, breaking another record.

Mounyo’s record-breaking triple jump was an inch farther than Paz’s 45.5.5 leap, and he lowered his 300-hurdle time from 39.13 to 38.95.

Socorro’s hurdle specialist also has the 110 hurdles record with a time of 14.39, and the stage is set for one of the most exciting Class 3A events. St. Michael’s High School’s Soren Annon turned in a 14.50 at the District 2-3A meet to Mounyo’s 14.64 at Hot Springs High School.
