The Memorandum of Agreement between the County of Socorro and the City of Socorro was renewed for the use of the teen center as a polling location for the calendar years of 2020 and 2021.

The teen center is located at 1002 Ake Street.

According to the agreement, the center is “the most suitable public building in the vicinity that is statutorily compliant.”

The Socorro County Clerk is required to give the City Manager a fourweek notice prior requiring its use for an election. The county has priority use of the building two days before and after an election and during all days of that election.

The agreement will continue until terminated and if the agreement is to be terminated by either party, there must be a written notice at least 180 days prior to a scheduled election.

During the city council meeting, Mayor Ravi Bhasker said the reason for the memorandum agreement is because the city had some students being taught at the facility on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“We thought it would be important to get some sort of memorandum agreement so we don’t have a sudden request to use (it as) a polling facility and have to clean it out and have the election people there,” he said.
