Socorro’s favorite date night spot is the Loma Theater. The Loma was picked by El Defensor Chieftain readers as the best date night spot and best business website.

According to its outstanding website, the theater was originally opened in 1937 on the town plaza. In 1956, a fire destroyed the theater, so it was reopened in the current location on Manzanares. The theater faced two closures, in 2009 and again in 2014, as it changed ownership.

In 2017, the theater reopened as the New Loma Theater after a join effort form First State Bank, New Mexico Tech and theater manager Elmo Baca. Ownership of the business was transferred to On the Break Entertainments in 2021.

The weekend theater often surveys audiences on social media to see what movies Socorroans want brought to town.
