Dolores Griego

Dolores Gavi Griego, 78, passed away at her home on December 14, 2023. She was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico to Isabel Carbajal on April 8, 1945.

Dolores was a lifelong educator working throughout the state of New Mexico. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Master’s degree in Bilingual Education, with endorsements in Modern and Classical Languages, Bilingual Education and Administration. Dolores was very proud of her accomplishments in education. She prided herself in the involvement in starting the Cottonwood Valley Charter School and developing a Bilingual Education program. Dolores most recently loved returning to the classroom teaching Kindergarten.

Over the last several months, Dolores was deeply involved with the San Miguel Catholic Church. She was a proud member of the Legion of Mary and faithfully prayed the rosary. Dolores most recently sewed costumes for La Gran Pastorela, a production very dear to her heart.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos; mother, Isabel Carbajal; sister, Lily Silva; brothers, Sonny Gavi, Eduardo Gavi, Manuel Gavi, Vernon Gavi, and JB Gavi.
She is survived by her loving sons, Juan Carlos Griego and wife, Annalisa of Illinois, Miguel Griego and wife, Kristen of Socorro, N.M.; brother Ray Gavi of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Jayben, Camille, and Jace; she also leaves many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jayben Espinoza, Daniel Kerr, Ronnie Black Jr., Tyler Black, Jeff Gavi, Darryl Cases, Michael Olguin Jr., and George Cline.

The Rosary will be recited on January 5, 2023 at 10:00 am. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 5, 2023 at San Miguel Catholic Church, El Camino Real, Socorro, N.M.
Inurnment to follow in Capitan, New Mexico. umerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
