Howard Hacck

1929-2023 

Howard R. Haack died at home in Socorro, New Mexico on Tuesday January 20, 2023. He is now with his Lord Jesus in heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Wieding) Haack; his children, Darla (Haack) Bejnar & husband Craig R. Bejnar of Socorro, N.M. and Russ Haack & wife Tammie (Heikkila) Haack of Spring Branch, Texas; his grandchildren, Cirk R. Bejnar, Felsen Peter Binger Bejnar & wife Jessica (Binger) Binger Bejnar, D. J. Haack, Katie (Haack) Juniper & husband Ryley Juniper; and his great-granddaughter, Ruby Binger Bejnar.

He was predeceased by his father, Herman G. Haack (1896—1973); his mother, Katherine (Krueger) Haack (1897—1971); his sister, Florence (Haack) Mayer (1921—1993); and his brother, Herman C. Haack (1923—1979).

Howard was born on Tuesday September 10, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Harlandale High School in 1947 as one of its football heroes. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity University in 1961. He married his beloved Ruth on July 25, 1953, celebrating 69 years of marriage in July 2022. He served in the Texas National Guard 1947—1969, and again as a full-time Retention NCO 1982—1989. He moved to Socorro in 2014 to be close to his daughter and son-in-law. He enjoyed the mountains and skies of N.M.

He loved to host parties and BBQ on the patio. After he and Ruth retired, they traveled the world as tour guides, bringing home pictures and Santa’s from wherever they went. When at home, they square danced regularly at the local, state and national levels. He lived his faith and was active in Kairos Prison Ministry and teaching Bible Study.

Arrangements are with Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, San Antonio, Texas. A memorial will be held later at St Paul’s UMC here in Socorro, N.M.
