Juan Martinez

1931-2023

Juan G. Martinez, a lifelong resident of Socorro, N.M., was peacefully called home on January 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Juan is survived by his son, Andrew G. Martinez; his daughters, Annabelle Gonzales, Elaine Smith and husband Dwaine, Linda Baca and husband Joey, Nancy DeLos Santos; his 15 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; and his four great-great-grandchildren.

Juan is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 64 years, Vivi L. Martinez; his son, Juan M. Martinez; his granddaughters, Mercedes Gonzales and Pamela Martinez; and his great-granddaughter Mariah Garza.

Born in Socorro on May 15, 1931, to Juan Maria Martinez and Senaida Martinez (nee Peralta), Juan retired from NM Tech after working 47 years. He was a member of the NM Army National Guard until he retired after serving for twenty-three years. During his Guard service, he spent time in New York, Minnesota and Texas. He was also a member of the unit called for the Santa Fe Prison Riot.

Juan loved visits from his children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed going to the casino, working in his yard, and his coffee while watching “The Price is Right” and “Judge Judy.”

Pallbearers are Donna Ross, James Gonzales, Kenny Gonzales, Scott Ross, Andrew Martinez Jr., Edward Garcia II and Matthew Garza.

A funeral service will take place on February 3, 2023, at the San Miguel Mission Church. A Rosary will be read at 10 a.m., with a Mass following at 10:30 a.m. His final resting place will be beside his beloved wife, reuniting them with his burial at the San Miguel Cemetery.
