Bob Jones

Bob Jones died on January 12, 2024, in Albuquerque.

He was the second of five children raised in Wauconda, Illinois, by his mother, Blanche.

He arrived in New Mexico in 1966 to attend the University of Albuquerque. He graduated from that school and later earned a law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Bob’s working life was dedicated to helping the less fortunate navigate the twists and turns of the criminal justice system. He worked for Southern New Mexico legal services in Socorro and for the Public Defender offices in Albuquerque and Taos.

Bob loved sports – especially the Chicago Cubs. He played and coached as long as he was able. While in Socorro, he was a founding member of the legendary

slow pitch softball team, the Working-Class Heroes; coached the Red raiders in Socorro’s Pinon League football program; the Orioles in the Socorro Little League; and was an AYSO Socorro volunteer.

Bob is well remembered for his loyal support of the Val Verde Lobby Lounge and the Capital Bar, his hijinks therein and the recycled bathroom fixture/flowerpots that defined his Baca Street property.
