Ruth Elizabeth Flightner White was born in Columbus, Ohio on 14 May 1933. She died with her family in Salt Lake City on 4 February 2024. Ruth had two degrees (BA and BS) from The Ohio State University and a graduate degree (MA) from the University of Kentucky.

Ruth, known as Windi in her youth, was a world traveler. She worked for several years as a stewardess for Pan American Airlines and then as a civil employee in the South of France for the US Army. Upon her return to Columbus, she worked as a teacher of English and Journalism at Upper Arlington High School and then as a guidance counselor at St. Charles Preparatory.

In retirement, Ruth lived in Socorro, New Mexico and authored three books. She was an active part of Socorro Community Theatre, a local writing group, and the Animal Protective Association of Socorro (APAS). In recent years, Ruth was recognized by the City of Socorro for her more than thirteen years of walking dogs for the shelter every week.
Ruth is survived by her son, Frederick H. White, daughter-in-law, Jaclyn White, and two granddaughters, Ruth Beatrice “Ruby” White and Hadley Josephine White. Ruth is also survived by many two-legged and four-legged friends who will dearly miss her.
