A change is in the air, subtle but there’s an odor that harkens fall.

Cranes were even seen in the valley; early you can hear their call.

Soon the odor of wood fires, salt cedar and piñon will fill the air

And aspens and maple leaves will change; the wonder of fall to declare.

Then waves of cranes, ducks and geese will fill the valley with their song.

As we enjoy this wonder of nature knowing winter will be here before long.

Next to Spring, Fall is my favorite time of year, the color changes, the smell

All prepare us for the cold of winter, bare branches on trees as well.

So enjoy this brief interlude between Summer’s heat and winter’s cold

Because it’s here for just a short time; treasure the color of leaves, red and gold.
