Dora Torres

1938-2023

Dora Garcia Torres, age 85, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 from ongoing health issues.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Ignacio Garcia; brothers Jimmy Garcia, Ray Garcia and Eddie Garcia; husband Fidel W. Torres; sons Alfred Torres and Leonard Torres Sr.

She is survived by three sisters Lillie, Frieda, Mary Lou and brother Sammie; two sons Ambrose P. Torres and wife Bella, Arthur Torres and wife Valerie; six grandchildren, Zenaida Colmenero and husband Jesus, AJ Torres, Merissa Torres and partner Adrianna, Jynel Torres Montemorano and husband Anthony, Leonard Torres Jr. and Paul Torres along with nine great grandchildren and many other family members.

Dora was born on June 3, 1938 in Belen, and recently resided in Socorro. Before settling down in Socorro, she met and married Fidel W. Torres, raising four sons together in several places in New Mexico.

Dora briefly worked as a nurse, but later became a full-time homemaker and focused on caring for her family.

She loved to cook, crochet and tend to her garden. She will be remembered for her beautiful heart and her strong willed personality. Memories of her bringing the family together for the holidays and her knack for cooking won’t be forgotten. She was known for her famous tamales, red chili and menudo. She will be greatly missed.

Mass for Dora will be held at San Miguel Church in Socorro, on Thursday, August 10 at 10 a.m.
