The following items were taken from reports at the Socorro Police Department

July 1

An officer was dispatched at 9:07 p.m. to a residence on Nicholas Avenue for a runaway child. The officer met the mother who explained when she got home from work, her daughter was not there. She said her daughter had gotten into trouble for not doing her chores and thought she could possibly have had her father pick her up, but she was unsure. She said she tried calling the daughter’s phone but did not get an answer and was unable to track the phone. She was last seen at 8 p.m. and described her clothing to the officer. The officer later spotted the daughter walking back towards the home. Her name was removed from NCIC.

An officer was dispatched at 1:10 p.m. to the 500 block of Tierra Bonita for property damage. The officer met with a man matching the description, and a check showed he had a warrant for his arrest. The reporting party told the officer her boyfriend broke a window in her residence.

 He was arrested, and while at the police station he spit on the officer. He was incarcerated at SCDC on the warrant, with the added charges of criminal damage to property and battery on a police officer.

An officer was dispatched at 2:16 p.m. to a residence on Central Avenue for a man who was acting out. The officer met with a woman who said her son was having a mental breakdown and had just left the area. Officers searched for him but he was not located at the time of the report.

An officer was dispatched at 8:13 a.m. to the Walmart parking lot for a break in to a motor vehicle. The officer met with a man who witnessed a woman taking items from his car. He said he was able to get his belongings back from her and gave the officer her description. The suspect was not located at the time of report.

July 2

An officer was dispatched at 4:56 p.m. to a residence on Calle Bonita for a dispute between neighbors. The reporting party said his neighbor’s dog was out of its property and loose. He also stated there was a piece of wood leaning against his fence. The officer spoke with the neighbor who removed the wood that was located on his own property.

An officer was dispatched at 5:18 p.m. to a residence on State Road 1 for a juvenile who had broken into a residence. The officer met with the juvenile’s grandfather, who said the youth broke into his grandmother’s home. The officer did see signs of a forced entry into the residence. The officer spoke with the juvenile, who was taken to Casa De Luz so he could be cared for while CYFD was en route. Due to the age of the juvenile, he was unable to be placed in a juvenile facility. CYFD arrived and made a safety plan for the child. He stayed with his other grandmother until the following day. In the morning, the grandmother, who wanted to pursue charges, took custody of the juvenile.

An officer was dispatched at 2:13 p.m. to a home on West Place for damage to property. The officer met with a woman who said someone had been staying at her residence who did not belong. The officer did a walk-through, and no one was located. The reporting party pointed out to the officer evidence that someone had been inside the residence. She asked the officer to do random checks on the address.

July 3

An officer was dispatched at 5:20 p.m. to a residence on Gianera Street in reference to a woman requesting assistance regarding a custody exchange. She told the officer the child’s father was refusing to pick up their child, and prior to the officer’s arrival, he decided to let her take the child. She said he told her if she wanted to take the child “she can walk up to the house” and pick the child up. She said she did not feel comfortable doing so and showed the officer the child custody agreement on her cell phone that said, as of July, the child is to be exchanged at the Walmart in Los Lunas on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. The officer spoke with the father, who said he was unaware of the time changes. He showed the officer a text message from the mother stating, “For every minute you are late today, expect the same Thursday,” and said he felt like he was being threatened. The mother admitted she sent it because she knew it would bother him all week long. The mother was escorted to the front door and the child exchange occurred.

An officer was dispatched at 10:24 a.m. for a breaking and entering at a residence in the 500 block of Grant Street. A woman at the home said someone had gone through all their stuff and that Social Security cards, birth certificates, and a necklace were taken. She suspected her daughter’s boyfriend could have done it. The officer had not located the boyfriend to question him at the time of the report.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Bernard for a welfare check. The officer met with a woman who said she was scared to be at home with her boyfriend and wanted to leave. While the officer waited for her to get her belongings, the woman spoke with her boyfriend and then said she wanted to stay. The officer spoke with her again and then she said she wanted to leave. A short time later she said she had decided to stay. The officer told her that her grandmother called him and she was on her way to pick her up. The officer was again advised by the woman she wanted to stay. A short time later, the grandmother called the officer back to the residence to do another welfare check. The woman reiterated that she wanted to stay.

An officer was dispatched at 10:02 a.m. to the 800 block of Spring Street for a fire in an apartment. The officer was notified that a man started the fire in his kitchen by placing several papers in his stove and then fled on foot. The officer was unable to locate him at the time of the report. The officer spoke with the apartment owner who said he wanted to pursue charges. A charge of arson was filed.

An officer was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of El Camino Real where a woman had been trying to break into one of the units. The officer knocked on the apartment door and was advised there was no woman inside. The officer could then hear blinds breaking and noticed a woman trying to crawl out of a window. She was caught, and a check with NCIC showed she had a valid warrant for her arrest. She was incarcerated at SCDC.

July 4

An officer was dispatched at 2:30 p.m. to Otero Street on a harassment call. The officer contacted a woman who said she was being harassed by her sister, who had driven by and was cursing at her and flipping her off. She told the officer that the next time it happens, she will make it physical and take it into her own hands.

July 5

An officer was dispatched at 2:57 p.m. to the police station to speak with a woman who had her mail stolen. She said she used to stay at an apartment on Spring Street, and her mail was supposed to be forwarded there. She gave the officer the name of another woman as the suspect. When asked how she knew it was her, she said, “It’s Socorro and everybody knows who does what.” When asked a second time, she said the same thing. The officer told her he would conduct a follow-up with the suspected party at her last known address and continue from there.

July 6

An officer was dispatched at 10:42 a.m. to the 700 block of Caine Street regarding a caller who said her tenant who is always early with her rent payment, did not show up to pay rent two weeks ago. She stated that when she went to check on the tenant, she noticed the bedroom screen was off the window and that she could smell a strange smell like rotting meat. The officer was also told the neighbors hadn’t seen her in about two weeks. The officer knocked and called the tenant’s name with no response, The landlord handed over the key, and with the front door open, the officer could see a decomposing human body in front of the refrigerator. OMI was called. Photos of the deceased and the area were taken by the officer. No medication was found in the home, and the officer did not suspect any foul play being involved in her death. OMI investigated, but because of the long-term exposure, positive identification could not be completed at this time. The deceased was collected and taken by Daniel’s funeral home.

An officer was dispatched at 3:43 a.m. to the new Circle K on California Street for a man in the parking lot stumbling around, appearing to be intoxicated. The caller stated the individual had been there for about 15 minutes stumbling around and acting weird, and he wanted him removed and trespassed. When the officer began to drive toward the man, he got in his vehicle and drove off. A traffic stop was initiated based on his erratic behavior in the parking lot. When he was asked to step out of the car, he appeared to be under some type of influence and was detained. A pat search detected a large lump in the man’s sock. The officer knew that a sock was a place where contraband and weapons could be hidden. When asked what was in the sock, the suspect tried to reach for it but was stopped. The officer reached into the sock and retrieved a lighter and a baggy of white powder recognized as cocaine. The suspect was arrested, and a tow inventory on the car was conducted. On the floorboard, the officer recovered a rifle with a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber. A substantial amount of marijuana was located in the car’s back seat. The rifle was logged into evidence for safekeeping. The marijuana and the cocaine were sent to the lab for confirmation. At the time of the report, the officer is awaiting the official weight from the lab with certified scales to charge for the marijuana. The suspect was booked for possession of a controlled substance-cocaine.

July 7

An officer was dispatched at 7:33 p.m. for a break-in at a church building on S. California. The officer could see where someone gained entry into the church through a window but could not find fingerprints or footprints due to heavy rain. The officer was advised of a guitar that was missing.

An officer was patrolling at 2:30 p.m. in the Park Street area and spotted a man known to have multiple warrants for his arrest. He was stopped and arrested, and a check with NCIC confirmed he had warrants out of Magistrate Court and Bernalillo County. He was arrested and incarcerated at the SCDC.

An officer was dispatched at 11:56 p.m. to a residence on Bagley Avenue for a trespasser. While en route the officer was informed that the trespasser had left and was given her description. She was located and struck the officer. She was charged with criminal trespass and battery on a peace officer and incarcerated at the SCDC.
