EDC STAFF REPORT

Residents woke up to the sight of a major crime scene on South California street on Wednesday morning after reports of an alleged gang-related shoot out that occurred in the early hours.

According to a Facebook post by Socorro Mayor Ravi Bhasker, a shooting occurred at the south Circle K and five suspects were being sought in relation to the incident. At 9:30 a.m. the area was congested with crime investigators including the state crime scene unit. State troopers had blocked off the south exit ramp in Socorro with much of their attention focused on an open-doored SUV in the middle of South California near the Tractor Supply store.  In the background, an uprooted street light pole’s base was seen about 100 feet from its original location further back windshield glass covered the roadway.

“It’s sad to see gun violence,” Mayor Ravi Bhasker told the EDC “The State Police have it shut down and they are investigating. We don’t have the same gun violence here like they have in Albuquerque, Los Lunas or Belen, they may have come off the interstate, but I don’t know anything yet right now.”
