The New Mexico Tech Children’s Center has undertaken a special mural project this summer with visiting artist Estelle L. Roberge and head teacher Ali Christensen.

The children are studying native New Mexico bird and flower species. Choosing their favorites, they first draw the figures, then paint them in a mural on the playground sandbox panels.

This project is not only fun, but teaches them about line, color, shape, and texture – the fundamentals of art. These budding artists are developing an interest in the natural environment through visual arts.
